The Aitutaki fishery
Large bonefish are the main draw. Look for individual fish across pale sand and broken lagoon bottom, then make your first cast count. These fish can test both your presentation and your tackle; a clear view of a big fish is the beginning of the challenge.
Giant trevally, bluefin trevally and triggerfish add other possibilities around coral edges, channels and motus. Tell the host which species interest you most. Each day’s approach follows the tide, wind, light and the guides’ local knowledge, with boat moves between areas and time spent wading suitable water.
Dates and your fishing week
The program runs April 23–May 1, 2027, using local Cook Islands dates. The standard US itinerary includes two Rarotonga hotel nights and six nights at Aitutaki Village on Ootu Beach.
An introductory guided half day on Saturday is followed by five full guided days, Monday through Friday. Sunday is the local Sabbath and the guides do not work. Enjoy the island, fish accessible flats independently or arrange an optional activity.
Your day-by-day itinerary
Friday, April 23 · Arrive in Rarotonga. Meet the group and transfer to the hotel for the first overnight.
Saturday, April 24 · On to Aitutaki. Take the domestic flight, settle into your beachfront base and meet the guides for an afternoon introduction to the lagoon.
Sunday, April 25 · An island day. No professional guiding is scheduled. Keep the day relaxed or ask about independent fishing and other activities.
Monday–Thursday, April 26–29 · Four full guided days. Explore different water with your guide and boat, carrying lunch and drinks for the day.
Friday, April 30 · Final guided day. Fish before packing for the evening return to Rarotonga and your second transit overnight.
Saturday, May 1 · Depart. Transfer to the airport for your international flight.
The final-night arrangement may differ for travelers returning through Auckland or Australia. We will confirm your complete route and local travel dates before you buy flights.
Your beachfront stay and meals
