Spring Creeks of the Argentine Altiplano

$7,500.00

The Argentine Altiplano is one of South America’s most dramatic and least-visited landscapes. Stretching across the high Andes of Catamarca, Salta and Jujuy, it is a world of towering volcanoes, vast salt flats, remote desert valleys and endless skies. At elevations often exceeding 10,000 feet, the environment feels wild, ancient and far removed from modern life.

Hidden within this high-desert wilderness are spring-fed creeks flowing clear and cold across the volcanic plateau. Fed by underground aquifers, these waters support lush aquatic vegetation and create a striking contrast against the surrounding landscape of rock, sand and lava.

These spring creeks provide exceptional habitat for rainbow trout. Crystal-clear water, abundant weed beds and stable flows combine to create ideal conditions for sight-fishing. Anglers stalk individual fish in intimate waters where presentation, observation and patience are often rewarded.

What makes this fishery unique is not simply the trout, but the quite radical setting in which they are found. One moment you are focused on a rising fish in a narrow ribbon of clear flowing water with weeds waving gently through the pool; the next you are looking across a landscape of 20,000 foot high volcanoes, distant mountains and open desert stretching to the horizon.

This is not a conventional trout destination (but we’re not known for conventional trout spots). It is a one-off expedition into one of Argentina’s most remote high altitude regions, where remarkable fishing and extraordinary scenery come together to create an experience unlike anywhere else in the country, possibly in the world.
